Chicago Headshots 2018

PJZ Studios

Welcome Chi-Towners

Hey Chicago! I'm coming to your town to shoot professional headshots. Below you'll find all the info you'll need to be prepared to shoot your 2018 headshots with Peter James Zielinski (me) Preparation, outfits, and what happens before/during/after. ALL questions answered here!

Let's Get Started

First off and most importantly, relax. We're taking headshots. A photograph of you showing how you look like you. It's a chance for a casting director, producer, or agent to know if you're right for a part or not. Using a few tricks and techniques, we'll make the session less "stranger with a camera in your face while you awkwardly stand there" and more "an easy acting exercise that'll make you comfortable in front of the camera." We'll do this in person and it'll make a world of difference. So, don't over think it and don't stress out.

A Little About Me...

So if you're wondering what my credentials are, I'll give you a quick bio. I am a photographer, retoucher, and digital artist. For 5 years, I was the staff photographer for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS as well as BroadwayWorld.com....shooting everything from Broadway curtain calls and events to the Tonys and other red carpets. In that time, I also freelanced for Playbill.com, as well as almost every Broadway press agent in New York. I have created calendars for the Broadway casts of Rock of Ages and Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark. Retouched the production photos for Broadway shows like Dear Evan Hansen, The Color Purple, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, School of Rock, Hello Dolly, Rocky, and First Date. I have a gallery installation of all the Broadway theaters that hangs on the walls of the Actor's Equity Audition Center in NYC. Even helped create the logo for the hit Broadway show Hamilton, too.

I should also mention I've been an Equity actor since 2004 and continue to perform all around the country. So...that's me. Now, on to you...

Preparation

So...prep. In terms of what to wear, bring a couple of choices and I can help you sort out what'll work best. Here's a few suggestions: Bright colors, solid colors, jewel tones, earth tones, and colors that will help bring out your eyes. If you don't have stuff like that, don't freak out and don't go buy completely new outfits. Clothing that you love to wear is best. I want you in your favorite stuff...the more comfortable you are in your clothes, the more comfortable you'll look on camera. Layering is great. Black/White/Grays are fine, but a little boring. They're color shots, you really should take advantage of this. But look, these are GUIDELINES not RULES. So, don't freak out or buy new clothing. If you've got questions, just ask. And please, PLEASE...bring more than just one t-shirt.

PLEASE IRON OR STEAM YOUR CLOTHING!

In the time leading up to your shoot, be sure to drink plenty of water and moisturize your skin. I promise that you (not to mention casting directors) don't want a dry, dehydrated actor in a bunch of images. Never hurts to load on the Chap Stick in the days before your shoot either. This goes for guys too.

Rest can't hurt either. If you can get a good 8 hours of sleep before your shoot, great. If not, don't stress, I'm an Adobe Certified Expert in Adobe Photoshop and I've got you covered in terms of retouching. This isn't an excuse to go to a party and let me do all the clean up. Try to take it easy, stay home, binge some Breaking Bad, and come in rested / with game face on.
